The Kogi State government has dismissed several lecturers from Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, following allegations of sexual harassment against students. This announcement was made by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Students Affairs, Isah Ojodunwen, during a one-day meeting focused on the state-wide adoption of the Model Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy in tertiary institutions, held in Lokoja.

Ojodunwen emphasised the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual harassment in educational institutions. He revealed that some lecturers had been dismissed, while others are currently facing imprisonment for their misconduct.

“The current administration, led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, is committed to addressing this issue. Sexual harassment is a crime, and offenders, no matter their rank, will be punished,” Ojodunwen stated.

He also referred to a recent tragic incident where a young student was murdered for ritual purposes at the Federal University, Lokoja, stressing the importance of creating a safe environment for all students. Ojodunwen called on students to report instances of harassment, assuring them that there would be no stigma attached to speaking out.

“The governor is dedicated to protecting students. Lecturers who exploit students will be dealt with severely. We encourage students to speak up so these incidents can be properly addressed,” he added.
