Teachers from across the three zones of Education District V have been honoured for their outstanding contributions and innovative approaches to teaching at the 18th Edition of the Teachers Merit Award Ceremony 2024, held at the Education District V headquarters in the vibrant Agboju area of Lagos.

The event served as a platform to recognize and reward the dedication and ingenuity of these educators.

Under the theme “Innovative Teaching in the Digital Age: Celebrating Educators’ Achievements,” Adekanye Anike, the Supervising Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, underscored the pivotal role of innovative teaching methodologies in navigating the complexities of the digital era.

She emphasized the significance of acknowledging and celebrating the accomplishments of educators who have demonstrated excellence in integrating technology into their teaching practices.

“The dedication and creativity exhibited by our educators and students are instrumental in advancing the objectives outlined in the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,” remarked Adekanye, expressing her gratitude for the commitment of the Education District V workforce.

She expressed optimism for the future, envisioning a trajectory of academic and co-curricular excellence that would propel schools and the district to greater heights in 2024 and beyond.

Commending the proactive measures taken by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for Education in recognizing and rewarding the exemplary efforts of teachers within District 5, Adekanye highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering a culture of appreciation and motivation among educators.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding teachers across various categories.

Fatide Francis Olugbenga of Lagos State Model College, Ojo, clinched the top spot in the Best Principal (Senior category), while Adebayo Ashimiyu Adeyemi of Araromi Ilogbo Junior Secondary School, Oko-Afo, emerged as the best principal in the junior category.

Among the distinguished awardees were Awode Olalekan Wasiu and Obaoye Olubukola, recognized as the best teachers in the Junior and Senior categories, respectively.

Their commitment to excellence and innovation stood as a testament to the unwavering dedication of educators within Education District V.

The ceremony concluded on a note of celebration and optimism, echoing the sentiment that through continued support and recognition, educators will continue to inspire and shape the future leaders of Lagos State.
