Lagos Model College, Badore Wins Governor’s Quiz Competition

In a spirited display of intellectual prowess, Lagos State Senior Model College, Badore claimed victory in the prestigious 2024 Governor’s Quiz Competition, emerging as the champions in the senior category.

Schools across the six educational districts of Lagos State participated in this annual event, designed to foster academic excellence among public school students.

The competition senior category was fiercely contested, with Ilupeju Senior Grammar School and Eva Adelaja Senior Secondary School securing the second and third places, respectively. Meanwhile, Vetland Junior Grammar School, Agege, and Igbeyinadun Primary School, Mushin, triumphed in the junior secondary and primary school categories.

These institutions outshone their competitors, including Eva Adelaja Girls Junior Secondary School and Oregun Junior High School, as well as Maryland Primary School and Fazi-lo-ma Primary School.

The grand finale, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, brought together the brightest minds from across the state. The competition tested students’ knowledge in various subjects such as English Language, social studies, current affairs, mathematics, basic science, and computer studies.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, lauded the participants and emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing education in Lagos.

“The positive turnaround in our education sector over recent years has yielded tremendous results,” he noted. Sanwo-Olu praised the initiative, stating, “Knowledge is not only tested by written exams but also by adopting other means such as quizzes, to develop students for real-life challenges.”

The governor congratulated the winners and their teachers, acknowledging their impressive performances as a testament to effective teaching and learning. He encouraged students to remain focused, promising continued government support to help them become agents of positive change in society.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Abolaji Abayomi, represented by Mr. Olufemi Ashaolu, reiterated the state’s commitment to producing well-rounded students, highlighting education as a top priority for the government.

The event concluded with the awarding of prizes to the winning schools, recognizing their outstanding achievements and setting a high benchmark for future competitions.
