In a recent address to the students of Lagos State Technical College Ado-Soba, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, emphasized the Lagos state government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing technical and vocational education.
This strategic move aims to foster increased job opportunities and mitigate youth unemployment across the state.
During his unannounced visit to schools, specifically Lagos State Technical College Ado-Soba along Lagos Badagry Expressway, Alli-Balogun urged students to envision themselves as future business owners.
He implored them to remain focused on their skill training, setting the stage for becoming exemplary role models for those following in their footsteps.
Addressing potential pitfalls, the commissioner admonished students to steer clear of vices such as bullying, drug abuse, and cultism.
He encouraged them to actively communicate their thoughts and experiences regarding various state government interventions in the education sector to their parents.
Alli-Balogun assured students that the current administration has equipped them with the necessary tools for success and reiterated the government’s ongoing commitment to providing more resources if needed.
The focus remains on supporting technical college graduates in becoming self-reliant by empowering them with essential skills and resources to become employers of labour.
Highlighting the broader perspective of technical education, Alli-Balogun explained that “state technical colleges are not just platforms for technical expertise but are designed to nurture creativity.”
“You are encouraged to venture into start-ups, combining their technical skills with entrepreneurship,” he said.
In a series of unscheduled visits, Alli-Balogun and his team also inspected Festac Junior and Senior Grammar School, Sari Iganmu Senior Secondary School, and five other schools within the Coker Orile complex.
He stressed the collective responsibility to provide quality education, emphasizing the need for school leaders to lead by example in classroom management, fostering leadership qualities for emulation by young teachers.
The commissioner’s visit underscores the Lagos State dedication to shaping a skilled and empowered future workforce through enhanced educational opportunities.
