McPherson University elevates pioneering faculty member to professorial cadre

Isaac Onigbinde, PhD, a longstanding faculty member at McPherson University in Ogun State, has been elevated to the professorial cadre effective from October 1, 2022.

The decision, heralded as a testament to Onigbinde’s academic prowess and contributions, came following the recommendation of the Appointments and Promotions Committee (Academic) during its 19th Statutory Meeting on February 14, 2024. Subsequently, the decision was ratified at the 42nd Statutory Meeting of the University’s Governing Council on February 15, 2024.

Onigbinde’s journey to this esteemed position traces back to his academic foundation at Ifelodun Comprehensive Grammar School, Ilajue, Oyo State, where he excelled as the overall best student, earning his West African Senior School Certificate in 1996.

His pursuit of knowledge led him to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2002, followed by a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2005.

Undeterred by the challenges of academia, Onigbinde furthered his studies, earning a master’s degree in Business Administration with specialization in Marketing from UNILAG in 2008, and a doctoral degree in Marketing and Strategic Management from Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, in 2013.

His academic journey also saw him serve as an Associate Research Professor in Marketing Science at the Arab Academy for Management Sciences, Cairo, Egypt (Djibouti Campus) in 2019.

Transitioning from the private sector to academia in October 2010, Onigbinde joined McPherson University’s faculty in October 2012.

His ascent through the academic ranks was marked by diligence and excellence, culminating in his promotion to Associate Professor in 2019 and subsequently to full Professor in October 2022.

An accomplished scholar, Onigbinde’s contributions extend beyond the classroom, with over sixty scholarly publications in high-impact journals, books, and conference proceedings to his credit.

His dedication and service to McPherson University have been recognized through awards such as the NYSC Merit Award in 2004 and the Vice-Chancellor Award for Excellence and Productivity in 2023.

Currently serving as the Director of the Directorate of Academic Planning and representing the Senate in the Governing Council of the University, Onigbinde’s leadership and expertise continue to shape the institution’s academic landscape.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, United Kingdom, and the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, Onigbinde’s influence transcends borders, as evidenced by his participation in numerous academic conferences and workshops globally.

In light of this achievement, Prof. Francis Igbasan, the vice-chancellor of McPherson University, extended heartfelt congratulations to Onigbinde, acknowledging his dedication to scholarship and the university’s development, while expressing optimism for his continued success in academia.
