The Sokoto State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro, has assured that comprehensive security measures are in place to protect corps members during the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation exercise.
Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, Yaro emphasised collaboration with the Nigerian Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and other key stakeholders.
“We have met with the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Commissioner of Police, and heads of other security agencies to secure the roads and ensure the safety of corps members,” Yaro stated.
He added that specific routes and locations have been identified and secured to guarantee safe passage to various camps.
Highlighting the proactive steps taken, Yaro mentioned that a pre-orientation camp workshop was held to address security concerns and ensure the success of the orientation exercise. “We will not post corps members to the Eastern Senatorial District of the State where there are security challenges. For any flashpoint where insecurity is pronounced, we don’t send our corps members there,” he reassured.
In addition to safety measures, Yaro encouraged corps members to engage in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programs offered during and after the orientation camp.
He expressed optimism that the NYSC Trust Fund Bill, once signed into law, will significantly support corps members interested in these initiatives.
Yaro also commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Sokoto State Government for their continuous support of the NYSC scheme. However, he urged further efforts from the state government in rehabilitating and improving camp facilities.
Over 2,000 corps members have been deployed to Zamfara and Sokoto for the Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 joint orientation exercise, with all necessary precautions in place to ensure their safety and well-being.
