The Alumni Association of Moba Grammar School, Otun Ekiti, has unveiled plans to raise N250 million for the establishment of an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre. The initiative aims to enhance digital literacy, improve learning experiences, and equip students with essential problem-solving skills.
Speaking to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the National President of the association, Samuel Bankole, emphasized the importance of the project in modernizing education at the school, which was founded in 1965. He highlighted the school’s legacy, noting that it has produced numerous accomplished individuals who have made significant contributions in various fields.
“The school has produced many change-makers, who have excelled tremendously in their chosen careers,” Bankole said.
The fundraising campaign is set to be launched on Saturday, with Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State expected to attend. The event is part of a four-day celebration organized by the alumni association to honor the school’s achievements and contributions to education.
Beyond fundraising, Bankole also used the occasion to call for integrity in education, urging parents and teachers to discourage academic malpractice. He stressed that true academic excellence must be earned, warning against shortcuts that could undermine students’ ability to tackle future challenges.
“The problem of Nigeria is not the leaders, but the followers. Parents and teachers should stop encouraging students to pass through corners to excel so that when future challenges come, they would know how to navigate,” he said.
The announcement received widespread support, with the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, pledging to amplify the school’s activities through various media platforms.
Among those present at the briefing were the Chairman of the Working Committee, Olufemi Adewunmi; the Secretary of the Committee, eminent scholar Prof. Williams Adebayo; and the Principal of Moba Grammar School, Jolasanmi Oluwagbenga.
With this initiative, the alumni association aims to bridge the digital gap and provide students with the tools necessary for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.
