The Vice Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof Maduebibisi Iwe, has warned its new students to shun cultism throughout their stay in the university.
He also enjoined them to embrace the values of honesty, hard work respect and academic excellence.
Prof Iwe, who spoke during the 31st matriculation ceremony of the university over the weekend, advised the fresh students to approach their studies with diligence, and enthusiasm and uphold the principles of sustainability, and innovation of agricultural knowledge, which the citadel of learning is known for.
The VC also charged the students to embrace diversity and engage in critical thinking as well as foster the spirit of collaboration and teamwork to achieve their set goals.
He said, “Remember you are embarking on a transformative journey that will shape your lives in the future, but I must remind you that this citadel of learning still maintains zero tolerance for indecent dressing, examination malpractice, and cult-related activities among other anti-social behaviors.
“I congratulate you all on this significant milestone of your academic journey and wish you well.”
The high point of the matriculation ceremony was the administering of the admission oath to 4,781 new students.
