The University of Ibadan Muslim Graduates Association (UIMGA) hosted its 18th annual scholarship presentation on Sunday, awarding a total of N1 million to 20 deserving indigent Muslim students.
The event took place at the Professor M.O.A. Abdul Islamic Centre on the University of Ibadan campus, where each recipient was granted N50,000 to aid their academic pursuits.
The cheques were presented by UIMGA’s National President, Alhaji Imran AbdulMojeed, alongside Alhaja Hadrat AbdulAzeez, a representative from the association’s diaspora members in the United States. Their presence underscored the global support for education within the Muslim community.
During the ceremony, both Alhaja AbdulAzeez and the chairman of the UIMGA scholarship scheme, Alhaji Abdullah Wale Adelakun, emphasized the importance of discipline and integrity, urging the beneficiaries to serve as exemplary ambassadors of Islam.
The event also featured an enlightening lecture by Professor Sherifat Aboaba, who spoke on “Striving for Academic Excellence and Braving Up for the Challenges Ahead.” Professor Aboaba highlighted the critical need for students to achieve not only academic success but also to cultivate excellent character. She encouraged students to acquire entrepreneurial skills, preparing them for a diverse job market beyond traditional white-collar opportunities.
Alhaji Imran AbdulMojeed offered heartfelt prayers for all donors and association members, both locally and abroad, while encouraging the students to remain actively involved in UIMGA’s initiatives post-graduation.
This scholarship programme not only provides financial assistance but also inspires a new generation of leaders committed to academic excellence and community service.
