The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the new Education Minister, Tunji Alausa, to prioritize preventing strike actions by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other university unions, calling for sustainable funding and improved welfare for educators across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Addressing the media, Senate Clerk Abdulyekini Odunayo emphasized the need for swift and targeted measures to enhance the quality of education. “The focus should be on curriculum reform, teacher training, and fostering innovative learning environments,” Odunayo stated, highlighting that consistent investment in these areas would be crucial to stabilizing the sector.
NANS also encouraged the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, to adopt a collaborative approach with student leaders and youth organizations. Odunayo advocated for initiatives that empower young people, promote entrepreneurship, and increase job opportunities, urging Olawande to build programs that respond to the evolving needs of Nigeria’s youth.
The student body stressed the need for ongoing reforms to uplift education standards, strengthen skills development, and ensure long-term solutions to the recurring issues around university funding and faculty welfare.
