National University of Singapore launches AI institute

The National University of Singapore (NUS) unveiled its highly anticipated AI institute on Monday.

With a steadfast commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation, the institute is poised to revolutionise sectors ranging from education and healthcare to finance.

In a press release issued by the university, it was revealed that the primary mission of the institute would be to spearhead research endeavors aimed at harnessing the full potential of AI technologies while simultaneously addressing pertinent ethical considerations. With a focus on fostering transparency and accountability, the institute aims to mitigate potential risks associated with the widespread adoption of AI.

The launch of the institute was accompanied by a substantial external investment totaling $6 million, underscoring the significant interest and support from external stakeholders in the endeavor.

Furthermore, the university itself pledged an additional $14.8 million towards foundational research, policy formulation, and the development of real-world applications.
