The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, has earmarked N3.73 billion for air navigational equipment and teaching laboratory costs in the 2025 budget submitted to the National Assembly by the Federal Government.
This investment includes N2.13 billion for air navigational equipment and N1.6 billion for direct teaching and laboratory costs.
Additionally, NCAT plans to allocate N695 million for aircraft maintenance, N100 million for motor vehicle fuel, and N150 million for plant/generator fuel. Insurance premiums for training aircraft will cost N270 million, while N633 million is set for insuring other college assets.
Ongoing projects include N400 million for aircraft spare parts and the retrofit of Diamond aircraft, part of a re-fleeting program initiated in 2020. The college also aims to spend N500 million on re-fleeting five twin-engine and 15 single-engine airplanes.
NCAT is constructing a 150-capacity female hostel at a cost of N443 million and plans to purchase 50 computer systems for the college library, a new project costing N193 million. Other ongoing projects include a N300 million office block, a classroom block in Abuja for N300 million, and N250 million for Boeing 737 simulator retention.
Furthermore, NCAT will allocate N120 million for Jet A1 fuel procurement, N180 million for simulator spare parts, and N100 million for ICAO RTCE certification. The college will spend N200 million on expanding the aeromedical center and N90 million on ICT equipment.
The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has also allocated N3.7 billion for establishing NCAT annexes in five geopolitical zones: Akure, Osubi, Ebonyi, Ilorin, and Yola, marking a significant expansion from its only current annex in Lagos.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) plans to spend N5 billion on extending its VHF radio network and N2 billion on upgrading safe tower projects at major airports, including Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt.
