Louisiana State University has appointed Aisha Ali-Gombe, a Nigerian associate professor, as the director of their newly established Cybersecurity Clinic.
This appointment comes after the university received a $1.5 million grant from the United States National Security Agency.
The grant aims to establish a pilot Cybersecurity Clinic that will safeguard small businesses targeted by cyberattacks.
The University of Abuja congratulated Ali-Gombe, an alumna of the institution, through a Facebook post. It highlighted her academic achievements, stating that she was the top-performing student in the Department of Computer Science in 2004.
“Big congratulations to the University of Abuja alumna, Aisha Ali-Gombe, an associate professor of Computer Science & Engineering, who has been selected as the director of the new Cybersecurity Clinic at the Louisiana State University, where she lectures.

Notably, Nigerian academics have been receiving recognition and appointments worldwide. In June 2022, Adejoke Ayoola, a Nigerian professor of Nursing, was appointed as the inaugural dean of the Calvin University School of Health in the United States.
Her expertise in community-based nursing, maternal and infant health, and remarkable accomplishments contributed to her selection.
Tunji Olaopa, another Nigerian professor, was appointed as a member of the international advisory committee of the African Training and Research Centre in Administration for Development, an intergovernmental organization focused on Africa.
Abdulrauf Ambali, a Nigerian professor, was also appointed by the Malaysian government to conduct a study on national security indexes in December 2022.
