Students from Kosofe Senior College, proudly representing Nigeria at the Junior Achievement Africa Company of the Year (COY) competition held in Kigali, Rwanda, have clinched two prestigious awards.

The team, operating under the moniker ‘The Sustainable Future Advocate Company,’ stood out with their innovative creation – plantain peel briquette. Comprising Fauzyhat Bello, Moses Ilori, Modinat Kareem, and Chinenye Nworie, these talented students garnered accolades not only for their ingenuity but also for their commitment to making a positive impact.

Their outstanding efforts were recognized with the Public Choice Award, a testament to the overwhelming support and votes cast by fellow Nigerians and Africans. Additionally, the team secured the Delta Airline Social Impact Award, further solidifying their commitment to creating solutions that extend beyond entrepreneurial success.

The COY competition, a platform that drew participants from a myriad of countries including Côte d’Ivoire, Eswatini, Ghana, Mauritius, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the host nation, Rwanda, showcased the diverse and innovative ideas presented by young minds across Africa.

Acting Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, Olaolu Akogun, emphasized that the students’ triumph was a collective achievement, crediting the collaborative efforts of the JA Nigeria community, supporters, and partners.

He expressed, “The awards received are not solely a testament to the achievements of Team Nigeria. Instead, they signify the combined endeavors of the JA Nigeria community, supporters, and partners who consistently contribute to the empowerment and development of young entrepreneurs.”
