In a bold move to elevate its technical education sector, Ogun State has embarked on the comprehensive rehabilitation of all eight technical colleges under the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), a World Bank-supported initiative. The project aims to align the state’s technical institutions with international standards and equip students with industry-relevant skills.
During a site visit to the Government Science and Technical College in Ijebu Ode, Dapo Okubadejo, the State Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, revealed the government’s commitment to overhauling the technical education infrastructure. “Our goal is to standardize technical and vocational education, providing students with the tools and skills they need to thrive in a global economy,” Okubadejo stated.
As the Chairman of the OGSTEP Project Steering Committee, Okubadejo emphasized the dual focus on enhancing both physical infrastructure and human capital. He noted that the introduction of modern equipment and smart classrooms is designed to ensure students can compete on a global scale and meet the industrial demands of the state. The inspection of ongoing rehabilitation will extend to the remaining seven technical colleges, underscoring the project’s broad scope, which also includes support for agriculture and the business-enabling environment.
Bolu Owotomo, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the government’s strategic vision for an integrated approach to development.
OGSTEP Project Coordinator Mrs. Mosun Owo Odusi highlighted the government’s investment in upskilling teachers and fostering partnerships with local industries. “These upgraded facilities will benefit not just students but also serve as a training ground for industry professionals,” she said, emphasizing the practical, hands-on experience students and teachers will gain.
This initiative is set to transform Ogun State’s technical education landscape, preparing students for a competitive global workforce and strengthening ties with local industries.
