In a significant step toward revolutionising education, the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced the commencement of operations at the newly constructed Model Smart School in Sogunro, Akinyele, Ibadan.
This groundbreaking development aims to provide cutting-edge digital and technical education opportunities to the younger generation, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in the global economy.
During a formal handover ceremony of the state-of-the-art facility, Jacob Dairo, the executive secretary of Oyo SUBEB, commended UBEC for its commitment to advancing technical and digital education within the state.
He emphasised the government’s unwavering dedication to nurturing the next generation’s potential to excel.
Dairo highlighted the pivotal role of education in achieving national development and transformation, emphasising that “it cannot be underestimated”.
The Model Smart School in Sogunro, a collaborative effort between the federal government and the Oyo State Government, is poised to be a catalyst for this transformation.
Dairo reiterated the institution’s focus on digital and technical education as key drivers of socioeconomic development and competitiveness.
He confirmed that the school is ready for full academic activities scheduled to commence this September.
“It will accommodate students from pre-basic classes, special education, basic 1-3, and junior secondary school 1-2,” Dairo said.
He added that “the institution’s establishment will significantly enhance the quality of teaching and learning by integrating information Communication technology into the curriculum.”
He expressed gratitude to UBEC for its support in enhancing basic education and eliminating the out-of-school syndrome.
Dairo also commended Makinde for his unwavering commitment to improving the quality of basic education in Oyo State.
Sherifat Lawal, a representative of UBEC, reaffirmed the federal government’s dedication to advancing Basic Education in Oyo State.
She stressed UBEC’s objectives to support states in developing smart school projects and improving the accessibility of quality teaching and learning materials for teachers and pupils.
The zonal consultant from UBEC, Sanya Akindele, provided insights into the school’s infrastructure.
“It boasts specialised classrooms for pupils with special needs, pre-basic, primary, and Junior Secondary School classes,” Akindele said.
The school is equipped with a robotic laboratory, vocational laboratories, a clinic, an ICT room, and an e-library.
Akindele praised Makinde for his commitment to this visionary project and noted that the school is fully computerised by UBEC and SUBEB.
He underscored the importance of early exposure to computers and emphasized the role of ICT as a springboard to future success for the students.
Jimoh Wasiu, the chairman of Sogunro community, expressed his appreciation for the governor and Oyo SUBEB, acknowledging the positive impact of the project on the community’s development.
Olaide Ladipo, the desk officer for Oyo State smart school, led a monitoring team to assess the facilities at the model smart school.
She announced that online registration for admission has already commenced via www.oyostatesmartschool.com, with the entrance examination scheduled for Monday, September 11, 2023.
