Polaris Bank, in collaboration with its strategic partners, has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the alarming number of out-of-school children in Nigeria by supporting education for 16,000 students since 2020. The initiative, which primarily focuses on empowering the girl child but also includes male students, reflects an inclusive approach to education.
In a statement on Monday, the bank detailed its efforts, which align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all. Students were provided with essential items such as school bags, uniforms, sandals, books, and pens, along with brain training techniques and emotional intelligence education.
Speaking on the programme, Polaris Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Kayode Lawal, encouraged students to seize the opportunities education offers. “This intervention aligns with the bank’s sustainability efforts aimed at reducing Nigeria’s out-of-school children population and increasing access to quality education, especially for the girl child,” he said.
Between November and December 2024, the initiative reached schools across Nigeria, including Lagos, Imo, Kano, Kogi, and Abuja. Schools like Opebi Junior Grammar School in Lagos and Government Girls Secondary School in Kano benefitted from the programme, with additional distributions scheduled for January 2025.
Polaris Bank aims to expand the programme to support 50,000 students by 2028, reaffirming its dedication to bridging education gaps and fostering sustainable development.
