President Bola Tinubu has approved system-wide policies to comprehensively overhaul the education sector to improve learning and skill development, increase enrolment, and ensure the academic security of the nation’s children.
The groundbreaking initiative, aptly named DOTS, encompasses Data Repository, Out-of-School Children Education, Teacher Training & Development, and Skill Development & Acquisition.
Under the Data Repository component, a thorough census will be conducted to gather vital information on schools, teachers, and students nationwide.
This data will serve as the foundation for targeted interventions and informed decision-making at both federal and state levels.
Addressing the pressing issue of out-of-school children, the government is set to expand its efforts through dedicated programs aimed at providing education and training opportunities for these marginalized groups.
Recognisng the pivotal role of educators, the President has allocated resources for teacher training and development, with a particular emphasis on digital skills to integrate technology effectively into classrooms.
Moreover, the implementation of the National Skills Framework marks a significant milestone in equipping students with the diverse skill sets necessary for success in the modern economy.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, expressed optimism about the transformative impact of these initiatives, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
With these ambitious plans set in motion, Nigeria is poised to witness a paradigm shift in its education landscape, ushering in a new era of opportunity and empowerment for its citizens.
