Project defence costs stare at post-grad students of Federal University, Oye Ekiti

Post Graduate students at Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) are facing financial strain as they prepare to defend their projects. Each student is required to purchase specific items for their defense, in addition to the mandatory N80,000 project defense fee.

Media consultant and public analyst,Lere Olayinka via his verified Facebook handle lampooned this scenario,he shared ” With love from federal university, oye ekiti! These items are to be bought by EACH of the Post Graduate students of Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) just to defend their project.That’s apart from paying N80k for Project Defense.When it is not Mechanic or Tailoring Apprenticeship Freedom”

Traditionally, academic pursuits do come with associated costs, but the requirement for students to individually procure these items has raised eyebrows and concerns within the student body. Many students find themselves questioning the unusual expenses, drawing comparisons to vocational training programs such as Mechanic or Tailoring Apprenticeships where specialized tools and materials are typically provided.

The university, known for its academic excellence, has yet to release an official statement regarding the matter. However, students are eagerly awaiting clarification on the rationale behind these additional financial burdens while some says it is unbelievable others also added that lecturers are always looking for any avenue to exploits students.
