Offers automatic employment to 100 corps members
Lagos State Governor,Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday gifted 4,277 corps members serving in the State a whopping N427.7 million.
He also announced a donation of N100 million to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and support staff.
The governor spoke at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation course for 4,277 corps members in Lagos, held at the NYSC camp, Iyana Ipaja area of the state.
Sanwo-Olu said each corps member would receive N100,000, making it a total of N427.7 million for all corps members.
The governor also approved the sum of N5 billion for the building of NYSC permanent site in Igando area of the state.
Sanwo-Olu further announced automatic employment for 100 corps members in the public service after their service year.
Sanwo-Olu said over the past three weeks, the corps members had been immersed in a transformative experience, learning to adapt to new environments, networking with fellow compatriots from diverse backgrounds, and embracing the challenges that come with communal living.
”This experience has not only prepared you for the tasks ahead but has also instilled a deep sense of unity that transcends ethnic, cultural, and regional boundaries.
“As you bid farewell to this orientation camp and proceed to your various primary assignments, you must recognize the significance of this program in fostering national unity.
“This orientation camp has been a microscopic representation of Lagos State a melting pot of cultures, languages, and traditions, and you have experienced first-hand the strength that comes from diversity. I am confident that you all will carry this understanding with you as you contribute to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria at large,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He charged the corps members to actively engage with local communities, address challenges, and contribute to meaningful projects, urging them to exemplify the lessons of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork that they had imbibed during their time in the camp.
“As you leave this camp, remember that the road ahead is illuminated with possibilities, and you have been equipped with new skills, new perspectives, and the determination to create a positive impact. The experiences you’ve gained during these three weeks have prepared you to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu called on all Lagosians, institutions and organizations to accord the young vibrant and energetic compatriots a warm welcome, saying “As they move forward in their service, let us give them the support and encouragement that they will require to enjoy a memorable service year in the centre of excellence.”
