The African Energy Chamber’s Education Fund has invited young African students interested in Africa’s energy transformation and development to apply for its 2023 scholarship. Beneficiaries, it says will receive financial support from US$5,000 to US$10,000.
The initiative is open to young Africans pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in oil, gas and energy-related fields (such as engineering, geosciences, economics, finance and law.)
In a statement, the African Energy Chamber said: “The funds come at a critical time when Africa is witnessing rapid advancements in gas and renewable energy, presenting immense opportunities for economic growth and environmental sustainability.”
The organisation said it is committed to providing financial aid to talented African students in Nigeria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Namibia and across Africa.
“Through strategic partnerships with educational institutions, the chamber will offer scholarships, grants and mentorship programmes to deserving students on the continent and those studying in the diaspora.
“This holistic approach to support aims to nurture the brightest minds in the energy sector, enabling them to contribute effectively to the continent’s energy transition and project development landscape.”
According to the chamber, applications will be evaluated based on the eligibility criteria, academic achievements, personal statements and letters of recommendation. Preference will be given to female applicants.
The application process will run from June to August 31 and awardees will be able to attend the youth forum at African Energy Week which will hold in Cape Town, South Africa from 16-20 October 2023.
