Education stakeholders in Bauchi State have vowed to end the menace of out-of-school among children.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement organised by Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, the District Head of Bauchi Metropolis, Nuru Jumba stated that under the Bauchi emirate, education is given more priority.
According to him, “gone were the days when you see people rejecting formal education.”
Jumba, who is also the traditional title holder of the Chiroma of the Bauchi Emirate, argued that, “As traditional leaders, our priority is to ensure our people are educated.
“Especially Girl child because we are lacking behind. And you know the status of Bauchi State on education. For that reason, his royal highness, the Emir, has directed us that wherever we find ourselves, we should talk about education.”
On his part, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Education, Muhammad Lawan, who is also in charge of Education AGILE, explained that the state government has set up the right organs for the delivery the project.
He said that by engaging the religious leaders and traditional leaders, it is easier to deliver whatever messages they have in that regard to the communities.
Lawan reiterated calls to the communities to comply with the AGILE project, stating that “In totality, AGILE has a lot of good for our wards, especially the girl child.
“So we want the communities to comply in order to enjoy from the benefits.”
Speaking with journalists, at the sideline of the engagement, the National Consultant on Advocacy and Engagement AGILE, the Federal Ministry of Education, Mohammed Usman, disclosed that he is impressed with the contributions of the critical stakeholders.
Usman stated thus: “I am happy with the meeting we had today.
“Yesterday, we were in the palace of the emir of Bauchi, and he gave us assurance that they will continue to leverage on various platforms to create awareness to the communities.”
It was gathered that the AGILE project is a World Bank Support project implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education.
It was also reported that it is targeted at girls between the ages 10 and 20 in Project 18, implementing states to create safe and accessible learning spaces for the beneficiaries.
