The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has urged university students to develop innovative business ideas.
Ogundipe said this on Monday July 27, 2020, at the inauguration of the I.T hub donated by the National Information Technology Development Agency to the University of Lagos.
He stated that the institution had three centres which comprises the entrepreneurship centre, innovation hub and the I.T. hub that will help to develop the entrepreneurship skills of the students.
“We have our entrepreneurship center; we have the innovation centre, and we have this I.T. hub. These three centres will help develop our students.
“The university is already talking to the students to come up with innovative ideas that could develop into viable businesses,” Ogundipe said.
“The university will register companies for our students and we also have facility from Bank of Industry to give them grants to start their own businesses,” he added.
While appreciating NITAD for the gesture, Ogundipe said the hub was part of the vision the school had for the development of students in the area of digital economy.
“I want to appreciate this gift from the NITAD under the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.
“This falls into our vision for the university and the development of our students in the area of digital economy. We have been talking about entrepreneurship, about innovation, about skill development and this fits into our vision,” he said.
“Our students are going to be exposed to the use of this facility and it is very close to our Entrepreneurship Center and also the Innovation Hub, so you can see that it is blending into the system.
“We are going to look at the possibility of making maximum use of this facility by having huts where people can sit and have their start-off spaces to start their own little business in the area of innovation.
“This is a very good time to have this facility for the university,” he concluded.
