Unilorin conducts semester exams amid NASU, SSANU Strike- VC, Egbewole

The University of Ilorin successfully conducted its ongoing semester examinations despite the seven-day nationwide warning strike declared by non-academic staff in public universities across Nigeria.

Professor Wahab Egbewole, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, made this declaration during the Ramadan Iftar with journalists held at the university’s main campus in Ilorin on Saturday. Expressing appreciation for the cooperation of the unions and the university staff, Prof.

Egbewole emphasized the commitment of the unions to the welfare of the students, which facilitated the smooth conduct of examinations.

According to Prof. Egbewole, the unions adhered to the directives from their national leadership and engaged in the strike action. However, owing to the understanding and cooperation within the university community, non-striking unions provided essential support to ensure the uninterrupted progress of the examination process.

He lauded the responsible approach of the unions and underscored their dedication to the students’ academic pursuits.

Reiterating the university’s commitment to its ‘Smart Agenda,’ Prof. Egbewole emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment for learning and innovation. He highlighted the significant strides made in infrastructural development within the university, citing the completion of the Chemical Engineering department, improvements to parking facilities, renovation of existing infrastructure, and construction of new hostels. These developments, he noted, contribute to enhancing the overall academic experience for students and staff.

In addressing the welfare of students, the Vice Chancellor underscored the recruitment of 201 academic and non-teaching staff, a measure aimed at bolstering the workforce and improving administrative efficiency.

Prof. Egbewole emphasized the university’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to its student body, ensuring their well-being and fostering a conducive learning environment.
