Authorities of the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) have taken decisive action by expelling Matthew Balogun popularly known as Plato, bearing Matriculation Number 14/25OD062, following allegations of sexual misconduct against a minor and others.
As outlined in the Unilorin Bulletin released on Monday, Balogun was found guilty of engaging in sexual molestation directed at vulnerable students and prospective admission seekers within the university.
According to the official communication from the institution’s Student Affairs Unit, referenced UIL/SAU/SAO/2024/01 and titled “Re: Allegation of Misconduct against Balogun, Mathew Adeboye,” the decision to expel Balogun was conveyed through a letter signed by Mr. Moses Opaleke, the Deputy Registrar of Student Affairs.
The letter detailed the sequence of events, noting that the university community became aware of the allegations through social media. Balogun was subsequently invited to appear before the Student Disciplinary Committee on October 16, 2023, a summons he failed to honour. Upon his appearance during the second sitting on October 19, 2023, Balogun admitted to the charges of misconduct.
Specifically, he confessed to taking unlawful advantage of vulnerable students and admission seekers by engaging in sexual molestation. His actions were carried out under the false pretence that he could influence their academic results or secure admission to the university, a violation of the clauses outlined in the Students’ Information and Regulations Handbook.
On October 25, 2023, he was served his letter of expulsion and consequently expelled from the university.
This expulsion underscores the commitment of the institution towards maintaining a safe and conducive academic learning environment, as well as its intolerance for any form of misconduct.
The University of Ilorin remains resolute in upholding its standards and ensuring the well-being of its student body.
