The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced a groundbreaking initiative to help senior secondary students improve their WASSCE grades. In a significant shift from the traditional system, students will now have the opportunity to resit their exams, avoiding the wait for the next exam cycle.
WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, made the announcement on December 31, 2025, during a JoyNews’ AM Radio Show in Ghana. Kapi explained that the new process, known as WASSCE PC1, will allow candidates to fast-track their admission process and enhance their grades.
“Students who access their results now and realize they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” Kapi stated. “The exams will take place from 24th January to 15th February 2025.”
To support candidates in their preparation, Kapi revealed that the chief examiners’ reports would be released promptly, providing detailed feedback to help students improve their study patterns and examination strategies. “We’ve advertised this programme widely through banners, our website, and our results checker platform to ensure that both students and parents are aware,” he added.
Eligible candidates for the resit exams include those who did not meet the required grades or whose results were canceled. However, students who have been banned due to examination malpractice are excluded from participating in the resit program.
The exams will be held in regional capitals to accommodate the limited number of candidates, and Kapi urged prospective participants to complete their registration by January 8 to take advantage of this new opportunity.
