KWASU crisis: Gov. Ahmed makes U-turn, resolves issues with school management

The crisis rocking of the Kwara State University, Malete, was at the weekend resolved.

The state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, finally caved in to pressure at a meeting with the governing council of the institution where he directed the authorities to go ahead with its affairs in line with due process.

It was reported that the Governor had last week approved the appointment of Prof. Kenneth Adeyemi as acting Vice Chancellor for the institution and ordered the outgoing pioneer VC, Prof. Abdulrasheed Nallah, whose tenure ends on July 27, 2019, to proceed on terminal leave, a development which triggered serious uproar.

The Governor’s action caused disruption in the system with the students union, varsity community and stakeholders expressing dismay over issue.

Consequently, the institution was closed indefinitely as a result of the heat generated by the governor’s directive.

A statement issued on Sunday to DAILY POST from the university management, said, “All pending issues surrounding the varsity’s crisis have been resolved, the executive governor of Kwara state and the visitor to the prestigious institution in his wisdom has resolved all the issues causing the crisis.

“More so, he gave a directive to the Governing board to go ahead with all necessary process as provided in the KWASU Gazette 2009 (as amended) Present at the weekend meeting were the outgoing VC, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education Barr Abdullahi Alkinla, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof Saka Nuru, Alhaji Kola Yusuf and Hon Oba Aluko both members of the council.”
