Lagos State University (LASU) is set to honour academic excellence as it prepares for its 27th convocation ceremony next week.
The highlight of the event is the graduation of 153 students with first-class honours, out of a total of 8,477 students receiving their first degrees in various disciplines.
This impressive achievement is a testimony to the institution commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
In addition to the first-degree graduates, the university will confer distinctions on 55 diploma students and award postgraduate degrees to 2,164 students.
In a pre-convocation media conference held on Thursday, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, announced the top performers of this year’s graduating class.
Mubaraq Olaniyi stands out as the overall best undergraduate student, earning a remarkable 4.98 CGPA in Accounting. At the master’s level, Aminat Olaitan is the top performer with a CGPA of 4.78 in Educational Management.
The ceremony will also recognise the achievements of 89 doctorate recipients.
Furthermore, LASU will bestow honourary doctorate degrees on two distinguished Nigerians for their significant contributions to the university and the nation.
Prince Tajudeen Olusi will receive a Doctor of Literature (Honoris Causa) for his work in History, Education, and Community Development, while businessman Prince Samuel Adedoyin will be awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) for his contributions to Commerce, Industry, and National Development.
In addition to these honours, Professors Martins Anethekhai and Amidu Sanni will receive honourary emeritus and distinguished professorships, respectively.
The convocation week will also feature a lecture delivered by former Lagos State Governor and Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola. The lecture, titled “Embracing the Future: Navigating the Intersection of Technology and Humanity,” will take place on Tuesday, June 4th, and will be chaired by Professor Peter Okebukola, former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Olatunji-Bello emphasised the university’s strategic vision, highlighting LASU’s vigorous pursuit of six strategic goals aimed at becoming the best university in West Africa.
She noted that these efforts have already yielded tremendous results, reflecting LASU rising academic standards and innovative approaches.
