The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that two of its officials have gone missing.
The announcement was made on Friday via the scheme’s official social media handle, formerly known as Twitter, now X.
The missing officials are Mr. Okun Christopher, the NYSC Akwa-Ibom State Coordinator, and his driver, Mr. Daniel Effiong Asibong. They were last heard from on July 29, 2024.
The duo was traveling between Onitsha and Owerri roads in a white official Hilux vehicle, bearing the registration number 27D31FG, on their way to Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State.
The sudden disappearance has raised serious concerns, prompting urgent calls for assistance from the general public and security agencies.
In a heartfelt appeal, the NYSC management urged security agencies in Anambra and Imo States, as well as the respective state governments, to exert every possible effort to secure the safe return of Mr. Christopher and Mr. Asibong.
The scheme has also called on well-meaning individuals from both states to aid in the search and rescue mission.
“The Management of National Youth Service Corps is appealing to the security agencies in Anambra and Imo States as well as the two State Governments to do everything possible to secure the release of two NYSC officials who went missing on Monday, July 29, 2024,” read the statement.
The NYSC has emphasized the importance of community involvement in this critical situation, urging anyone with useful information regarding the whereabouts of the missing officials to contact law enforcement agents in Anambra and Imo States, any of the 37 NYSC State Secretariats/Area Offices, the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, or the nearest police station for immediate action.
The sudden disappearance has left family members, colleagues, and the larger NYSC community in a state of anxiety and concern.
