The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has commenced the screening of over 700 shortlisted candidates for the 2024/2025 Postgraduates Scholarship Scheme in the Southwest region.
The exercise which was witnessed by the Federal Commissioner, Federal Character Commission (FCC), representing Lagos state, AbdulWasiu Kayode Bawa-Allah, was held at the Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan on Monday.
The selected candidates were drawn from various disciplines ranging from Engineering, Applied sciences, sciences, social sciences and others.
The candidates rated the conduct of the exercise as the best in recent times and thereby commended the efforts of the PTDF.
In a separate interview, Raji Wasiu Adeyinka, a graduate of Computer science, from the University of Ibadan and Adebola Osifowokan, a graduate of Chemical Engineering, Covenant University, lauded PTDF over what they described as a seamless screening exercise.
Also, the FCC Commissioner, Lagos state, Bawa-Allah, said what the PTDF is doing is in line with the constitutional responsibilities of the FCC to the entire citizenry of the nation.
FCC, according to him, has the constitutional responsibility of ensuring probity, equity, and fairness in the sharing/distribution of political offices, and infrastructural facilities to the citizenry across the six geo-political regions.
“What the PTDF is doing today is one of the social benefits to the Nigerians noting that the resources that will fund the scholarship is from the Nigerian states.
“FCC as a supervisory agent in this exercise is to ensure that a laid down procedure is duly followed.
“We are to ensure that it is equitably and fairly done. FCC does not compromise merit and that is why whoever that is qualified is selected and given the opportunity at the end of the exercise.
“The process is going on smoothly. The interviewers are doing an excellent job.
The selected candidates are duly verified. There is no case of impostor in this centre.
“The only advice I have for the management of the PTDF is to create more awareness in the subsequent edition.”
