A 15-year-old Senior Secondary Two student of Babcock University High School, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State, Aderibigbe Eniola, has emerged the overall best and won N1m cash prize in the 2019 Chemistry challenge organised by PZ Cussons Nigeria.
At the grand finale of the event held in Lagos on Tuesday 30th July, 2019, where five other finalists were announced, Adele Chika of Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Ojuba Mezisashe Shalom of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja were declared second and third respectively.
Apart from the cash prize, Aderibigbe got a medal and laptop while the school Chemistry teacher got N100,000.
Adele and Ojuba also received N750,000, and N500,000 respectively, including laptops and medals. Additional prizes were laboratory equipment for the winners’ schools.
The Head of Marketing, PZ Cussons (Consumer), Charles Nnochiri, said the overall objective of the competition was to continue to make PZ Cussons Chemistry Challenge the number one platform for the support of Chemistry learning in secondary schools.
The Chairman, Advisory Board, PZ Cussons Chemistry Challenge, Prof. Oladele Osibanjo, in his remark, said, “The competition is designed to promote the study of chemistry among students while demonstrating the relevance of the subject in our society through an open competition among public and private secondary school pupils. And honestly, the integrity of the competition is unmatched.”
