The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has emphasised the importance of self-development and technology adoption among teachers in Nigeria to ensure their relevance in the rapidly evolving global landscape. This call to action was made during a two-day online conference of registered teachers in Nigeria held between August 30 to 31, 2023, under the theme, ‘Promoting community of practice among Nigerian teachers for effective service delivery.’
TRCN, as part of its recommendations, urged teachers to actively engage in knowledge sharing and assist colleagues in embracing basic digital tools for effective teaching and service delivery. The council highlighted the need for a platform to facilitate a community of practice among teachers, enabling them to exchange ideas, share experiences, and enhance their overall job performance.
“There should be an establishment of a vibrant community among teachers where they should embrace technology and embark on self, professional development,” stated TRCN. The council stressed the importance of lifelong learning for teachers to remain relevant to the aspirations of learners in a fast-changing global environment, ultimately upholding the integrity of the teaching profession.
Also, the TRCN advocated for the creation of training hubs equipped with reliable internet connections, particularly in rural areas, to ensure that teachers have easy access to online information and resources, facilitating their continuous development.
TRCN’s call to Nigerian teachers underscores the critical role of technology and self-development in preparing educators for the challenges and opportunities of the modern world. By fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and community engagement, TRCN aims to equip teachers with the tools and skills necessary to provide effective education and maintain their relevance on the global stage.
