The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) orchestrated a transformative training session for directors of the State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEB).
The initiative, held in Abuja on Wednesday, focused on refining the directors’ competencies in the implementation of Universal Basic Education (UBE) programs.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Hamid Bobboyi, addressed the participants during the capacity-building workshop, emphasizing the imperative role they play in realizing the objectives set for universalizing basic education nationwide.
Bobboyi urged the directors to garner support from all stakeholders, especially the beneficiaries of UBE services, in championing the government’s initiatives for effective programme implementation.
“As you are aware, the UBE programme seeks to ensure unhindered access to quality basic education for every Nigerian child regardless of gender, socio-economic background, or geographical location,” stated Bobboyi.
He underscored the importance of well-planned, implemented, and sustained UBE activities at federal, state, and local government levels, aligning with the diverse needs of learners in each domain.
The UBEC chief highlighted the significance of consensus building, effective partnerships, and synergies across all segments of the UBE delivery processes for the success of the programme.
He asserted that the workshop was a deliberate effort to enhance the officers’ skills, facilitating the effective deployment of their inherent potential.
Expressing optimism, Bobboyi believed that the training would inspire officials to excel in their functions, particularly in areas such as sensitization, advocacy, and mobilization.
He emphasized the critical role of competent and skilled officials in successfully coordinating and leading essential UBE delivery programs.
Sidikat Shomope, the Deputy Director of the Social Mobilization Department of the commission, encouraged participants to bring new ideas to the table for improved education delivery outcomes.
Shomope urged them to familiarize themselves with best practices that could elevate the Nigerian education sector to greater heights.
The comprehensive training was specifically designed for SUBEB directors of Social Mobilization and UBEC Social Mobilization Officers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), marking a pivotal step towards a more robust education system in the country.
