UNESCO has announced the opening of applications for the 2024 International Literacy Prizes, encouraging literacy education experts globally to apply.
Nominating organizations are also urged to recommend outstanding candidates who have made significant contributions to advancing literacy learning.
Benefits:
Six awards will be presented, continuing the tradition of recognizing exceptional individuals and organizations. The prizes highlight innovative and effective literacy projects that address pressing educational challenges. Each laureate will receive either the UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize or the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy. The King Sejong Literacy Prize includes a medal, a diploma, and $20,000, while the Confucius Prize provides a medal, a diploma, and $30,000.
Eligibility:
Eligible candidates include governments, non-governmental organizations, and individuals dedicated to promoting and advancing literacy through impactful projects and programs. Applications must be submitted to the relevant nominating entities, either the National Commission for UNESCO in the candidate’s country or an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO.
Application process:
The application process involves two key deadlines. Candidates must submit their applications to the nominating entities by July 5, 2024, midnight Paris time. Subsequently, nominating entities have until July 19, 2024, midnight Paris time, to submit their nominations to UNESCO.
