1. The University of Abuja was established on January 1st, 1988 under decree No. 110 of 1992 as amended.
2. The University of Abuja popularly known as UNIABUJA or UofA is uniquely situated in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja.
3. The University has two campuses: the Mini Campus located in Gwagwalada Area Council about fifty four kilometres from the city centre, and the Main Campus situated along Abuja-Airport Road, some few kilometres from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
4. UniAbuja operates as a dual-mode university, offering both conventional face-to-face programmes and distance learning opportunities.
5. The university was the first to receive both dual mandate at inception.
6. The university has a student population of 55, 364 and a staff strength of 3, 362.
7. The vision of the University is “to develop an institution of higher learning that combines academic excellence with the pursuit of the unity of Nigeria.”
8. The University had its first Matriculation in 1990 which marks the beginning of its academic work.

12. The current vice chancellor of the university is Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah.
13. The university offers diploma, undergraduate and post-graduate degree programmes as well as a Centre for Distance Learning School.
14. Some of the notable Alumni of the university include Uba Sani, Current governor of Kaduna State, Aishah Ahmad, former deputy governor Central Bank of Nigeria, and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu – Lawyer, media personality, among many others.
