Notable Kaduna cleric, Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Kure has tasked the nation’s universities to engage in research and provide specific local solutions to their immediate host communities.

Kure, who is the Vision Pioneer of the Throneroom (Trust) Ministry, Kafanchan, Kaduna State, also advocated for the reorientation of Nigerian universities for the country’s positive direction.

While presenting a paper titled “Reconfiguring the Nigerian University Landscape: A Critical Exploration of Pioneer Solutions for Sustainable Educational Reforms” at a One-Day Inaugural Public Lecture organised by the Kaduna State University, the cleric explained that doing so would expose students to the need to make the desired impact in the communities they reside, even after leaving school.

As a result, Kure challenged the management of the Kaduna State University to clearly define its philosophy and what it hopes to achieve and to deliberately instill this philosophy in the students if the university wants to survive in the long run.

He lamented the current poor state of the nation and how Nigerians are suffering, adding that the government must be deliberate in correcting the selfish and faulty foundation upon which the country was established.

According to him, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Federal Government needs to provide Nigerians with a step-by-step blueprint on how it intends to fix the country, rather than continually reassuring the people that things will soon get better.

“Everything has come to a standstill right now; both leaders and the followers need a complete reorientation,” Kure insisted.

He maintained that, “The foundation upon which the nation was founded from the beginning was faulty,” stressing that, “it was founded on a selfish interest and regional interest.”

The clergyman said there was a need to redevelop a nationalistic orientation through Nigeria’s university system so that “we can begin to see all of us as one entity and every part of the country as important.

“The government needs to stand back and hear the cry of the people. Things are bad, and the government’s response so far has not been encouraging enough to bring the expected peace and succour to the people.

“Nobody seems to be responding to the problems and cries of the people; they only reassure them that things will get better, but Nigerians are interested in knowing how things are going to get better.

“Somebody needs to speak up because Nigeria is dying slowly and quietly. I call on students of tertiary institutions to change their attitude toward learning and to discover their potential so that they can leave a positive legacy for future generations.”

The Vice Chancellor of KASU, who spoke through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bashir Ali observed that the topic was carefully chosen to address the current challenges faced by the education sector of the country.

Ali urged participants to listen carefully and make judicious use of what they learned for the betterment of education in the country.
