Zenith Bank Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading commercial banks, has faced a backlash from National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and other customers following delays in processing payments, including corps members’ September allowances.
The bank’s technical issues, which began after a scheduled maintenance on September 29, have persisted, leading to widespread complaints on social media.
Corps members, who rely on Zenith Bank to receive their monthly stipend of ₦33,000, expressed frustration as many had yet to receive their allowance despite the disbursement being made by the NYSC since October 2. The extended downtime, far beyond the anticipated maintenance period, has disrupted mobile banking, internet banking, and USSD services.
Customers, including those running businesses, have also reported significant losses due to the inability to perform transactions, with many questioning the bank’s communication and response to the issue. Although Zenith Bank assured users that the maintenance would end on October 1, its services remain largely unavailable, compounding the frustrations of its clients.
Several NYSC members have resorted to contacting the bank directly via email, demanding explanations and urging quick resolution, but no official response has been provided.
As the disruption extends into its second week, there are increasing calls for the bank to address the system failures, improve communication, and compensate those affected by the outage.
This incident raises concerns over the bank’s technological infrastructure and its ability to handle critical services, particularly for public-sector payments like the NYSC stipends.
Zenith bank please resolve this issue. It’s long over due .
It is indeed long overdue.
