The Vice Chancellor of Wellspring University, Benin, Prof. Isaac Ajayi, has said that graduates of the institution in computer science, software engineering and cybersecurity would be inducted into the Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria as part of activities marking the 12th convocation of the institution which holds on October 18.

Reeling out the activities for this year’s convocation week at a press conference in the school premises on Tuesday, the VC said the induction, would be held on October 17 and it is coming after the graduates have fully met all the professional requirements of the council.

He also stated that the graduates have been immersed in intensive entrepreneurial training and a special Graduate Finishing Programme, which have prepared them adequately for the future, expressing confidence in their ability to create jobs instead of becoming jobless.

The VC revealed that other activities lined up for the convocation week are a keep fit exercise for staff and students, a novelty game, a debate competition exhibition and research fair, a musical concert by the school choir, a thanksgiving service and an alumni lecture and dinner.

Ajayi stated that on the convocation day, the Chancellor of the University, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, would confer first and higher degrees on deserving graduands, while Dr Uyo Akpata, will deliver a lecture on ‘Positioning for Global Competitiveness and Great Societal Impact.’

He noted, “One significant event that is included in this year’s convocation activities is the induction of our graduates in computer science, software engineering and cybersecurity into the Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria before their graduation.

“This will be performed for the graduates by the Registration Council on the 17th of October, at the university. The induction is coming after the graduates have fully met all the professional requirements of the council and lending credence to the quality of professional training we offer to our graduates.

“For this 12th convocation, the university will be presenting a total of 149 candidates for graduation. 67 will be graduating with first degrees and 82 with postgraduate diplomas and Masters’ degrees.

“The statistics of the First Degree graduands show that only three made First Class, 33 made Second Class Upper Division, 25 made Second Class Lower Division and six fall into other categories. In the postgraduate category, 46 are graduating with postgraduate Diplomas while 36 are graduating with Masters’ degrees in various courses.

“Having passed through the most stringent academic standards and evaluations, these individuals have been found most worthy both in character and in their several disciplines to be the holders of the certificates of this institution, attesting to their various levels of degrees.

“All our academic programmes remain accredited by the National Universities Commission and relevant professional associations. Our Nursing programme which enjoys the full accreditation of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and with state-of-the-art laboratories has just been upgraded to a faculty with increased quota for admission.

“This set of graduates we are churning out in the convocation programme have all been immersed in intensive entrepreneurial training and a special Graduate Finishing Programme which have prepared them adequately for the future and we are confident they can never go out there and be jobless.”
