Network of Private Independent and Articulate School Executives (NIAPSE) a group of private school owners in Nigeria has decried multiple taxation of private school owners by different agencies of the government and promised to make a case for them.
This was stated during the inauguration / unveiling of the association in the Ogijo area Ogun State over the weekend.
The school owners also emphasized on the importance of unity among members as a way of fighting multiple taxation and other challenges facing them.
The group mentioned the importance of ” idea sharing ” and diversification” to the future development of education in Nigeria .
Desmond Ayeleso ,the vice president of the group noted that NIAPSE was not founded to compete with any other association but to develop education , especially in the private education sector.
He said, “There has not been any pressure for sustainable education policy and we need to take education development to the grassroots. That is what our association I aimed at ensuring by uniting school owners.
“One of the things we want to achieve by coming together is to assist school owners in getting peace of mind in their school business and to also conveniently impart quality education on school children.”
He said NIAPSE will act as a pressure group on the government to ensure the reduction of some of the taxes that are paid by school owners to the government and examination bodies.
Ayeleso stated that the group is “around now to fight the issue of multiple taxation against school owners by the government .”
National president of the group, Dr Tope Adeniyi-Martins while delivering his speech at the occasion said that NIAPSE is focused on delivering the network and tools ,professional development, best practices and idea sharing to private school owners in Nigeria.
He listed the core values of the group as Independent thinking, enforcing diversity, championing inclusivity, leading change and empowering the community.
Professor Sola Aletan of the Department of Education Foundation, University of Lagos described NIAPSE as a ‘ catalyst for change.”
He continued, “I recognize the incredible potential that exist within this association.
“You as visionary members and leaders, have the unique opportunity to drive meaningful change in the education system.
Professor Aletan also stressed that “NIAPSE is not merely association, but a catalyst for progress, an opportunity to collaborate to share best practices and to uplift one another in the pursuit of excellence.”
