In a landmark event, thirty graduates from the Department of Food Science and Technology were inducted as professional members of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST) during a ceremony held on November 20, 2024. This first-ever induction ceremony took place on the university campus, marking a new chapter in the professional journeys of these fresh graduates.

Addressing the inductees, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, emphasized the importance of continuous learning, noting, “Your professional growth depends on updating your knowledge base.” Represented by Professor Sunday Awe, Professor Jimoh extended his congratulations to the graduates, encouraging them to be “worthy ambassadors of the university.”

The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Professor David Friday Apata, commended the inductees, pointing out the critical role of food science in economic development. He urged them to stay committed to the pursuit of knowledge within their field, a sector he said was vital for national progress.

Dr. Bola Osinowo, the President of NIFST, reiterated the institute’s dedication to supporting its members’ career development. “We are committed to helping you build your careers, offering information on reputable companies and organisations for internship placements,” Dr. Osinowo affirmed. Represented by the Assistant National Secretary of NIFST, Mr. Rasaq Oke, she also encouraged the inductees to seek guidance from senior members, assuring them that NIFST is prepared to offer professional support.

A pivotal moment in the ceremony came as Dr. Wasiu Awoyale, Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology, led the inductees in an oath-taking ceremony and presented their certificates, formally welcoming them into the professional community.

Several distinguished guests graced the occasion, including Professor Bolanle Akinwande, Chairperson of the Western Chapter of NIFST, and Mr. Victor Olatunji, NIFST Logistics and Events Officer. Friends, family members, and well-wishers also gathered to celebrate this significant achievement with the new professionals.

The induction marks a promising start for these graduates, equipped with both the credentials and the support network to make impactful contributions in the field of food science and technology.
