The University of Montana Graduate Scholarship is offering fully funded Master Scholarships to qualified and interested candidates to study in the USA.

The University of Montana Scholarship covers the full tuition of the selected candidate, provides a comprehensive stipend of $26,000, and several other benefits.

Applications are welcomed for an MSc graduate opportunity in applied quantitative ecology at the Wildlife Biology Programme University of Montana (UM).

The focus of this project is developing and refining abundance estimation techniques to help understand the impact of management on large mammal populations in Montana, US.

The successful candidate will work closely with researchers, natural resource professionals, and field technicians to evaluate how animal distribution and behavior affect the estimation of ungulate population size.

Requirements

To be considered for the University of Montana Scholarship, you must:

have a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, ecology, statistics, computer science, or closely related disciplines, and three of the qualifications below;

Experience with a programming language

Experience with spatial analysis

Experience with managing and analyzing wildlife monitoring data

Experience with field data collection

The position is based in Missoula and is available beginning August 1, 2024.

The duration of the research assistantship is 2 years.

MSc graduate opportunity comes with a competitive compensation package, including an annual salary of $26,000 (including summer), plus tuition, health, and benefits.

Required Documents

Cover letter must outline the following, each (300 words) in its own section:

(a) motivations for pursuing a graduate degree in the topic of this position and description of professional goals;

(b) illustration of adaptability, initiative, follow-through, and capacity to learn new skills, and bring this project to completion; and

(c) description of a challenge that you had to overcome.

CV (max 3 pages),

Transcripts, and

Names and contact details of three references.

Application procedure and deadline

The first step of the application process is by emailing the above documents as one attached PDF file with “MSc Montana Large Mammal” in the subject line to Dr Mahdieh Tourani at mahdieh.tourani@umt.edu before the deadline May 1, 2024.

Review of applications begins immediately and continues until the position is filled.

Top applicants will be asked to apply to the Wildlife Biology Program within the UM Graduate School as the second step of the process.
