The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) Resilience Fund is excited to announce the launch of its 2024 Journalism Fellowship. This fellowship is dedicated to empowering journalists from Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria to investigate illicit economies and their links to instability in the region. The initiative invites proposals for comprehensive investigative projects that delve into these critical issues.
Benefits:
Successful applicants will each receive a grant of €8,000 to support their investigative work. This financial assistance aims to address the significant funding gaps faced by journalists tackling complex issues of organized crime and instability. In addition to the grant, fellows will benefit from tailored capacity-building sessions, including mentorship from experienced professionals to help navigate challenges and enhance their investigative skills.
Eligibility:
The fellowship is open to journalists who are nationals of and based in Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, or Nigeria. Applicants should demonstrate a strong understanding of the interplay between illicit economies and local socio-political contexts. Proposals must reflect awareness of the security risks inherent in reporting on these topics. The selection process will consider contextual relevance, narrative development, solution feasibility, and the applicant’s capacity to build community resilience.
