The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has announced the opening of applications for the 2024 IP Labs 2.0 Acceleration Program. Designed specifically for early-stage startups in Nigeria, this program aims to equip innovators and entrepreneurs with the necessary intellectual property (IP) skills to drive business growth and secure financing. Following the successful pilot phase in 2023, the program has been expanded to support 300 startups across Nigeria.
Benefits:
Participants in the IP Labs 2.0 program will benefit from one-on-one mentorship with renowned IP and business experts selected by WIPO. The program offers extensive training opportunities, access to practical tools and services, and valuable networking opportunities with peers in the tech, innovation, and entrepreneurial ecosystems. The initiative will culminate in a public ‘Demo Day,’ where successful startups will showcase their achievements in leveraging IP for business growth.
Eligibility:
The program is open to early-stage startups from across Nigeria that are working on innovative, technology-driven solutions to real-world challenges. Eligible startups must have a clear intellectual property component in their business ideas, with the potential for industrial application. The program strongly encourages applications from women-owned startups and those focused on green technologies. Founders must be available for the entire seven-month virtual curriculum, which runs from October 2024 to April 2025.
Application process:
Startups can apply for the program by completing the online application form available at the WIPO website. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and only the most promising startups will be selected to participate in the program.
Applications deadline: September 20, 2024.
