Bauchi set for inter-secondary schools presidential debate

The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has concluded an inter-school debate competition organised among others to identify the state’s  representatives at the forthcoming presidential debate competition.

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Jamila Muhammad Dahiru during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Inter-Secondary Schools Debate competition, which took place at the Government Girls Day Secondary School, Sa’adu Zungur, Bauchi declared that the ministry is focused on grooming the students to be the best version of themselves.

The Commissioner, represented by the Special Adviser on Education to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, Alhaji Adamu Zakari highlighted that “the Inter-Secondary Schools Debate Competition aims at developing the students and fostering peace and unity among public schools.”

Dahiru maintained, “No doubt the competition will ginger the students and provide positive results in the education sector.”

She also congratulated the students who participated in the debate and called on parents and guardians to support the students in their quest for brightness and excellence.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri who was represented by the Director of Schools Services of the Board, Zuhairu Usman described the schools debate competition as an extra curriculum activity, that will provide an opportunity for both students and teachers to develop their intellectual capacities.

Speaking earlier, the director of schools services of the ministry,  Mrs. Fatima Musa Garba appreciated the leadership style of the state commissioner for education for providing new modalities that improve the education system.

She noted that “this Inter-Secondary Schools championship is the first of its kind in the history of the education sector, particularly in the state ministry of education.

It was reported that three secondary schools won the Inter-Secondary Schools Competition, and they include the team from Government Compressive Day Secondary School, Bauchi, recorded the First Position; followed by the Government Science Secondary School, Misau which earned the second position and the Government Girls Secondary School Itas-Gadau that emerged as third winner.

Some selected members from the winning teams are expected to represent Bauchi State at the National Presidential Debate expected to be held in Abuja ending this year.
