David Oyedepo, Chancellor of Covenant University, has called on the country’s emerging workforce to shift their focus from job-seeking to job creation.
Speaking on Thursday at the university’s campus in Ota, Ogun State, Oyedepo underscored the need for young Nigerians to become “change agents” and “solution providers” amid the nation’s ongoing unemployment crisis.
Addressing a crowd of students and community leaders, Oyedepo emphasized the role of entrepreneurship and innovation in building a more resilient economy.
“Nigeria has an unemployment challenge,” he said, “and job creation is one of the most impactful solutions we can implement.”
Urging the youth to think beyond traditional career paths, he encouraged them to adopt a mindset that prioritizes creating opportunities over waiting for them. “Youths should be contributors rather than job seekers,” he stressed. “Every contributor becomes successful.”
In his motivational remarks, Oyedepo drove home the significance of this shift in thinking. “You can’t be a contributor and end up a failure,” he declared. “What you don’t resist has the right to remain, and what you don’t confront, you can’t conquer.”
He then challenged young people to look for problems they could solve and not merely see challenges as obstacles, but rather as opportunities to innovate.
Concluding his speech, Oyedepo urged Nigerian youth to embrace creative problem-solving, encouraging them to “think out of the box” to achieve meaningful and transformative outcomes.
