The Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Grace Adagba, recently conducted inspection visits to selected Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ECCDE) schools in Makurdi Local Government Area of the state.
The inspection commenced on Thursday in various schools across Makurdi.
During the inspection, Adagba urged parents to enroll children aged 2 to 5 years in ECCDE centers across the state, noting that all public primary schools now operate these facilities.
Accompanied by Mr. Jacob Ukaha, the Education Secretary of Makurdi LGA, Dr. Adagba explained that the visit aimed to inspect ECCDE centers across Makurdi LGEA in preparation for the upcoming school resumption.
The schools visited included: LGEA Primary School Wurukum, LGEA Central Primary School Makurdi, NKST Primary School Wadata, St. Mary’s Primary School North Bank, LGEA Primary School Ichwa North Bank, Holy Family Primary School Kanshio, NKST Primary School Gaadi, and LGEA Owner Occupier.
Adagba emphasized the importance of starting teaching on the first day of resumption and urged head teachers to actively promote their schools to attract more learners.
“You are expected to commence teaching on the first day of resumption. Prepare your lesson plans now,” she said.
“Things have changed; it is no longer business as usual. We want to see improvements.”
She reminded staff that government teachers are not part-time workers and should report to their duty posts even during vacations.
Adagba also made an unscheduled visit to the Makurdi Local Government Education Authority and Zonal Office. She urged the Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Gom Clement, and his staff to remain dedicated to their duties, highlighting the crucial role of SUBEB Zonal Offices in monitoring schools and reporting to the Board for prompt action.
In a remark, Mr. Bartholomew Atsar, Headteacher of LGEA Primary School Wurukum, expressed satisfaction with the improved welfare conditions of teachers under the current administration and pledged to work hard to elevate the standard of basic education in the state.
