The Executive Chairman of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Grace Adagba on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, CP Steve Yabanet, at The Police Headquarters Makurdi.

The purpose of the visit was to establish a collaborative effort between SUBEB and the Police Force to bolster security measures in Basic Education Schools across the State.

Dr. Adagba emphasized the imperative of fostering a harmonious relationship with the Police, highlighting the incessant challenges of theft, vandalism, and other security breaches plaguing public schools. She cited a recent incident in Makurdi where there was an attempted abduction of school children, underscoring the urgent need for ensuring the safety of learners, teachers, and school property.

In response, CP Steve Yabanet acknowledged the existing synergy between the Police Force and Schools, particularly through initiatives like the Safe Schools programme. He encouraged school administrators to maintain close communication with security agencies, ensuring they have access to emergency contact numbers of law enforcement agents within their vicinity.

This proactive approach, he emphasized, would facilitate prompt response to security incidents, thereby fostering a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Highlighting the effectiveness of such collaborations, the police commissioner shared a recent success story where the police thwarted an attempted kidnapping at a school in Makurdi, underscoring the importance of continuous cooperation between SUBEB and law enforcement agencies.
