Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) in Anambra State has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kentucky State University in the United States.
The historic agreement was formalized on Monday, September 23, 2024, marking a pivotal moment in fostering international collaboration.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, this partnership is set to enhance exchange programs and research linkages between the two esteemed institutions. Representing COOU during the signing ceremony were Dr. Koffi Akakpo, the 19th President of the university, and Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Acting Vice Chancellor.
The MoU outlines numerous benefits, including opportunities for exchange programs across various fields such as agriculture, nursing sciences, education, and economics. A standout feature of this agreement is the opportunity for a COOU staff member to enroll in a master’s program in soil science, starting in the spring of 2025.
Under the innovative leadership of Prof. Omenugha, COOU has been diligently working to enhance its international collaboration and visibility. The university’s strategic framework, referred to as “3Vs” – values, viability, and visibility – aims to elevate its global standing. This initiative has already borne fruit, resulting in successful partnerships with institutions across Europe and Asia, including the University of Economics and Innovation in Poland, Lincoln University in the United Kingdom, and Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University in China. COOU has also actively participated in the European Union Erasmus+ Programme.
These concerted efforts reflect COOU’s unwavering commitment to advancing research, education, and ethical practices, positioning the university as a leading institution not only in Nigeria and Africa but also on the global stage.
