Hilltop Schools, located in Edjeba-Warri, in Delta State, has launched an ambitious initiative to collaborate with international educational institutions, organizations, and experts to revitalize education in the state. This groundbreaking effort aims at enhancing the quality and relevance of primary and secondary education in Delta State while upholding the rights of the child and implementing human rights treaties relating to children in Nigeria.
The initiative was announced during an interactive session between the proprietress of Hilltop Schools, Edjeba-Warri, Mrs. Dorcas Mojisola Oguntoyinbo, and a Delta State-based child rights activist, Comrade Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho.
Established in 1992, Hilltop Schools has grown to comprise kindergarten, nursery, primary, and high schools, as well as world-class boarding facilities.
Mrs Oguntoyinbo said, “Through this partnership, Hilltop Schools’ teachers will participate in exchange programmes with foreign schools and organisations, learning from their counterparts and sharing their expertise. This exchange program will foster cross-cultural understanding, pedagogical innovation, and improved teaching methods.
“The programme’s key initiatives include teacher exchange programmes, curriculum development, research and development collaborations, and student exchange programs.”
She informed South-South PUNCH that in line with Nigeria’s Child Rights Act of 2003, which domesticates the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, Hilltop Schools will prioritize the protection and promotion of child rights.
She enthused, “The school will ensure that all initiatives are guided by the principles of the CRC, including the best interests of the child, non-discrimination, and the right to life, survival, and development.”
Furthermore, Hilltop Schools will implement measures to prevent child labour, child marriage, and other harmful practices that violate child rights, while it will undertake the establishment of mechanisms for reporting and addressing cases of child abuse and neglect, in accordance with the Child Rights Act.
The upcoming international collaboration engagements would afford Hilltop Schools the wherewithal to revitalize the educational system in Delta State and prepare students for success in an increasingly interconnected world while upholding the rights and dignity of the child.
