Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Agbor, has issued a formal query to a student nurse, Osato Edobor, over an alleged social media post made during the official visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the Dome Event Center, Asaba, on March 25, 2025.
In a letter dated March 27, 2025, and signed by the Provost, Mrs. Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, the institution accused Edobor of engaging in a “malicious act of recording/singing and posting an unofficial response to a song during the arrival of the First Lady.” The post, allegedly shared on Edobor’s TikTok page, was deemed unauthorized by the school authority.
The letter cited the Student Handbook, specifically referencing “standardized disciplinary action for some punishable offences No. 8, Page 21,” as the basis for the query. It stated: “This is a punishable offence as enshrined in the Student Handbook under standardised disciplinary action for some punishable offences No. 8, Page 21.”
Edobor has been directed to provide a written explanation in three copies within 24 hours of receiving the query, justifying why disciplinary action should not be taken against her. The letter emphasized: “You are therefore requested to explain in writing in triplicate copies within 24 hours of receipt of this letter why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for this act.”
The development has sparked discussions about student conduct and the boundaries of social media usage, particularly in professional and academic settings. It remains to be seen what disciplinary measures, if any, will be enforced following Edobor’s response to the query.
